As one of the founding members of the firm in 2003, Mr. Cavanaugh combined his years of trial work in the fields of insurance defense and commercial litigation to develop a robust practice in commercial litigation, plaintiff personal injury and plaintiff medical malpractice. Over the last two decades, Mr. Cavanaugh’s litigation practice has evolved to representing seriously and catastrophically injured clients in medical malpractice, automobile accidents and multiple electrocutions, all while still maintaining an active commercial litigation practice on behalf of individuals, partnerships and corporations. Mr. Cavanaugh has tried cases to verdict in federal court, state court and arbitration.  He has argued in front of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the Pennsylvania Superior Court, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also participated in numerous mediations. Mr. Cavanaugh has obtained several multi-million dollar verdicts in medical malpractice, automobile accidents and commercial disputes. Between verdicts and settlements, Mr. Cavanaugh has recovered over $200,000,000 for his clients.

Mr. Cavanaugh had the unfortunate experience of losing his 20-year old son, Killian, in December 2017. He died tragically of a brain herniation at a hospital and Mr. Cavanaugh and his wife ironically found themselves in the position of medical malpractice plaintiffs, rather than the attorney fighting for plaintiffs. This experience has allowed Mr. Cavanaugh to fully and completely understand what his clients are going through, including the bereavement process. Having walked in the shoes of his medical malpractice clients, Mr. Cavanaugh has the necessary empathy and resolve to take on physicians and hospitals in medical malpractice cases.

Attorney Cavanaugh lives in Wexford, Pennsylvania with his wife, Susan. In 2017, he and his wife started the Killian Cavanaugh Foundation in honor of their son. The Foundation organizes and puts on an annual 5K race to benefit scholarships to students at Shady Side Academy and Pine-Richland High School. In addition to these scholarships, the Foundation has donated tens of thousands of dollars to local food banks and animal shelters and has provided bicycles and gifts to families in need.
