Patrick Cavanaugh focuses his practice on two primary areas: complex commercial litigation and personal injury litigation. He is a 1990 graduate of Yale University where he earned a degree in Economics. In 1994, he graduated from Duquesne University School of Law where he was a member of the Duquesne Law Review and a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in the study of contracts.

Following law school, Mr. Cavanaugh practiced insurance defense where he tried numerous arbitration, bench and jury trials. He subsequently began focusing his practice in the field of commercial and business disputes. In 1999, he joined Reed Smith LLP, an international law firm with substantial concentration in complex commercial litigation. In 2002, Mr. Cavanaugh was named a partner in the litigation department at Reed Smith LLP. In 2003, Mr. Cavanaugh and Stephen J. Del Sole, also a former Reed Smith LLP litigation partner, formed Del Sole Cavanaugh Stroyd LLC.

Mr. Cavanaugh has substantial experience in a broad spectrum of civil, commercial and business litigation. He has represented public and private companies, as well as high profile individuals. Mr. Cavanaugh has handled business transaction and valuation disputes, class action litigation, banking and financial services litigation, director and officer liability cases, U.C.C. matters, product liability actions, construction and design disputes, public contracting disputes and insurance coverage litigation. He also handles medical malpractice, wrongful death, automobile, and motorcycle accidents, dog bite, slip and falls and other personal injury actions.

Mr. Cavanaugh has tried jury trials in both state and federal court. Additionally, he has argued before Pennsylvania Appellate Courts, has tried a case of original jurisdiction in the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court and has handled a host of private mediations and arbitrations, including matters under the American Arbitration Association.

Pat was born in Pittsburgh where he currently resides with his wife and two children.
